Hurtigruten Launches Online Training For Travel Agents

Hurtigruten has launched a brand new online training programme for agents across the UK, the first time it has ever offered a stand-alone scheme. Designed to take online training to the next level, this programme aims to expand on traditional schemes that simply develop product knowledge by helping agents identify how to grow and market their business with specific modules on topics such as getting to know your customer, how to close this type of sale and much more. This substantial investment in agent training further demonstrates the importance Hurtigruten places on the trade and helping them drive sales to grow their business.

The training encourages agents to become ‘conversational in Hurtigruten’ and the programme is broken down into four courses that need to be individually completed. Each course provides information to enable agents to learn more about Hurtigruten, in bite-sized chunks, to enhance understanding and knowledge and eventually become ‘fluent’. As an added bonus, incentives just for those who ‘speak Hurtigruten’ will be added from time to time. In addition, it will also be hosted on the ACE website.

Each course has a quiz at the end to test agents understanding and a pass rate of 81% is required to qualify for a certificate. This can be printed off and then displayed with in the agency allowing customers to see how knowledgeable staff are. Each course also qualifies for 5 ACE points towards the ACE accreditation scheme,which recognises agent expertise through training.


The courses, each of which is then broken down into smaller modules are: The Hurtigruten Experience; Incredible destinations; Hurtigruten guests and Selling Hurtigruten. In addition the site has a fun area where it breaks down phonetically town and villages to help with correct pronunciation plus there is a section on frequently asked questions.

We’ve expanded it from the online training many others offer to try and help agents ‘market’ the product and grow sales as a result. We want them to find out how to identify who to market to and then map this out against their own databases.”
